| Well I went and did it. I went down and bought the wood for the kitchen. 17 sheets of 3/4 Red Oak veneer ply wood for the boxes, 4 sheets of 1/4 hickory veneered mdf for the door panels, 19 bd ft of poplar for the drawers and 55 bd ft of hickory for the face frames and stiles and rails. Guess I am committed now, or should be. I'll let you all know in about 3 weeks. |

Hope your kitchen comes along quicker than ours did. It took eighteen months of evenings and weekends to complete. One or two disasters and a couple of quite large "back to the drawing board" exercises.
Good Luck

| Thanks Sue, I am taking 3 weeks vacation to do this. We are doing demo this weekend, the electrician will be here Monday morning to do the lighting and the socket movements. We had the counter top guy here two days ago and will order early next week. The appliances are scheduled to be here the last week in June and we will set up the floor guy this weekend. The three weeks is to build and install the cabinets so I am hoping we will hit that. Since this is all new territory for me we will see. i have a friend that works for a local cabinet maker and he has done the design, all the drawings and cut lists and will be available for advice when I get stuck. I have spent the evenings this week learning to make stiles and rails and learning to use the new 12" Porter Cable dove tail jig to make half blind dovetails, which by the way was much easier than I anticipated and they came out looking rather nice. I still need to break out the pocket hole jig and give the a whirl but I may wait a bit on that as I still need to finish clearing the kitchen out today and tomorrow with my wifes help. Bottom line, huger project with quite a few players so i have done a project plan in MS project to keep track of everything. Yikes! |
