| Math question....someone must know Hello scrollers
I am making a Steve Good design clock and had to reduce the pattern to 70 % because of the available wood I have. His 100 % design calls for a clock insert with 2 3/8 inch hole. Now having reduced it to 70 % what size hole should I cut into it now???????

| I'm not sure of my math but I get about 1 11/16 inches. Like I said, I'm not sure but I'd try something close to that in a piece of scrap.
Hope this helps,
Chris

| I try to use metric as much as possible. 2 3/8 = 6 centimeters. 6 x 70% =4.2
4.2 cm = 1 9/16 And before anybody starts with the metric bashing look in your pocket. Inches etc is the british way of doing things, which included 12 pennies to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound ect-etc. Try using the metric measure it is a lot easier to use in woodworking, as it is with money.

| I would drill it with a 1 3/8" and use a 1 7/16 clock insert. The little extra wood isnt going to effect anything.Ive done this many times.

| According to my proportional scale, you need a hole between half-way between 10 and 11 /16th or 21/32 nds. The nearest decent smaller size is 1 5/8ths. but I don't know of any clocks that fit that sized hole. I agree with lucky788scroller and would drill 1 3/8 and use a 1 7/16 insert. You can always add a little detail into the extra wood around the insert if you think it is too bare.

I am not a math person at all. but what I would do is just mesure the hole in the pattern. and see what fits.not cuttin it yet, and , living some room for the clock sizes availabale. your friend Evie |
