Default CDs

Hi . I bought a few CDs afew years ago containing scroll saw patterns . I recently decided to take alook at them . I was able to access all but one . It seemed as though ,what was on the CD dissappeared . I had an older computer which has Adobe 6 . I tried it with the same result . I 'm using adobe 7 on the newer one .
Has any one had a similar experience ?
These CDs don't just erase after awhile , do they ?
What may have happened ?
Is it possible for it to be erased if down loaded to a save file ?
I can't remember doing something like that as when I first started playing around with computers I was scared to death of making a mistake . I have looked in all my files . Gone . Open to suggestions .
Roger

Sadly, Roger, some recordable CDs and DVDs can be very poor quality. These tend to have a limited life expectancy, sometimes counted in months rather than years. Don't ask me how the deterioration comes about - I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer - but I know this to be true from my own bitter experience. With recordable CDs and DVDs, you tend to get what you pay for and it's worth paying a little extra for quality brands; I've never had a problem with Ritek, for example.

It sounds as if the person who sold you the CD used poor quality media. However, I wouldn't presume to suggest he deliberately set out to diddle you; he probably used the media in good faith.

It is possible to buy data recovery software, some of it being quite expensive. I've tried an awful lot of it in my time (you should see the number of television programmes I've recorded on DVD over the years ) but I've yet to come across anything better than CD Recovery Toolbox Free which, as its name suggests, is freeware . It does have a few minor bugs but if you're patient with it you should find it works on most occasions.

Hi Roger

Without knowing how your internet browser is configured to manage downloads, it's difficult to suppose where your download might have ended up . I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser and by going to Tools - Downloads I can always find anything I've downloaded. Perhaps someone else could show you how to find downloads if you use a different browser.

Hi Gill . I clicked on the Tool recovery in your text . I think I may have ended up in the wrong site ? It has a Brothers logo . I went to ,what I think is the official site but something is trying to block the download . My Tools doesn't have the downloads in it . Not to worry , I'll get it sorted out .
Cheers Roger

Let's try again .

If you click on this link:

http://www.brothersoft.com/d.php?sof...xFreeSetup.exe

The application file should begin to download immediately. It's on the Brothersoft website which is quite trustworthy (insofar as I know) and hosts many software applications from a variety of suppliers.

Thanks Gil. I downloaded for the "just in case" it should happen to me. I did not know this even existed.
