| Group Project I remember a few years ago after I had been into scrolling for a little while that this forum did a quilt project together. Various people scrolled out individual quilt pieces and then sent them in and I believe it was auctioned off or given away. Can't remember for sure. Anyway, I was wondering if anybody would be interested in trying to do something like that again. Either the same thing, a quilt with individually designed pieces or maybe something different. Maybe we could all as a group make a dome clock. Or something along those lines. Personally I don't know that I will ever cut a dome clock by myself, but if it was a group thing then we could all say that we helped to build a dome clock.
I don't knowl. It's just a thought I had. I'm still pretty high from the pain meds. I'm giving birth to a kidney stone this weekend.

I think you have a good idea. I would really like to make part of a quilt or something of that nature to give to charity or to auction off for a good cause. Knowing this group, I know there are many others who would also like to do this. Now there’s a challenge to us all.
Bob, Shannon, any suggestions? |

| The quilt was auctioned off at the open house.
It was a fun project and I would be eager to join in again.

Matt,
I know how that goes.. I have had 7 of them one was 19mm. Drink lots of water, LOTS... like 3/4 of a gallon or more a day.
The group project sounds fun. Will be watching out for it.

| I am in this time.
The quilt was a beautiful thing. Unfortunately I did not contribute at the time. The sad part is that it did not sell for anything close to what ot was worth. It was auctioned off at the open house, to scrollers who look at it and say I can make that. If it is done again it should be auctioned to non scrollers.
Regarding a collaboration on a clock "DON'T DO IT" our club did one, a John nelson clock, and I must say it was a lot of fun. BUT clocks need to be precise and to assemble one that was cut by multiple people is a real challenge. That said we just started another clock collaboration.
Something like a quilt is better because each panel is the same (size) but even with that I think Bob was challenged to put it together.

| instead of auctioning it off, maybe raffle tickets would be better. Each of the contributers would have a picture of the final product and could sell tickets over a period of time. That way a lot more people from all over would have a chance to own it plus it would generate a lot more cash! I'll keep watching for more information, and hope that time will allow me to participate. |

| Good point Rolf. Those clocks would take a lot of precision. Too much to try and have all of us do long distance. So scrap that idea. Raffle tickets would be a good idea or if there is an actual charity auction somewhere that we could donate the project to.
DW - 19mm!! and 7 of those things huh? This is my 2nd so I suppose I can be expecting more. |

| I have an idea.
I just got a PM from a new member, Tinker. I'm going to cut and paste it here, because Ray and Cheryl said it better than I could! Quote:
I am a part-time scroller, and am need some help with a charity that my family started 2 years ago at Christmas time. Project Rudolph was my son Ian's Eagle Scout project. the 1st year with the help of 9 schools in southern Idaho, and various church groups here and in other states, we put together 1500 gift bags for our service members who were in transit thru Ramstein AirForce base in Germany, and ubits we knew dowrange. Each lunch bag was decorated by gradeschoolers, and contained a candy cane a letter from a gradeschooler, and one from an adult or highschooler, some american candy and german chocolate candy and an "unbreakable ornament". This went over so well that we were asked to do it again last Christmas, only this time we delivered over 4500 bags, and we are starting on this next Christmas now. The reason I am writing you is we found out that the best/prefered ornaments were the ones I had scrolled out or the flat unfinished ones we purchased, and painted. They fit easily into the BDU pockets and were easy to take with them. this years goal is 7000 bags to be handed out to the service members which means we need 7000 ornaments. Would there be any way thru your Forum that we could get some help from other scrollers to cut out ornaments that we could then get other groups to paint and decorate, so that we could send some really nice handmade ornaments to the troops letting them know just how much they are appreciated. Here is a Link to the website that my daughter in Germany setup the first year we did Project Rudolph. Home. In this website you can find more information about Project Rudolph, as well as feedback from the servicemembers who recieved the gift bags as well as from people who helped us. Please let me know if you can help us or what we would have to do to get help from other scrollers in making ornaments.
Thanks:
Ray & Cheri Archibald
| I think this is a great idea, and fully support it! (and I don't have time to coordinate another quilt).
