Default Ethel's first show for 2008

I know some of you wanted to see the truck with it's tools on display like i do at shows. this past weekend we had a Make-a-Wish car show at a nearby shopping center and we took it up. We have this show a couple times a year for the kids in York with a challenge in their life. It gets the families out with their kids, usually gets a bunch of money for the cause and the kids get to ride in some of the street rods and classic vehicles during the show. This year's first Make-a-Wish had over 150 vehicles signed up. My wife and i have always had a special place in our hearts for special needs folks and their families. My wife taught special ed for a while in different districts while she was still teaching and we both serve at our church in a class called the Sonshine Ministry. It gives parents if these special needs folks a chance to sit through a service with peace of mind the family member is being taken care of by a group of caring folks in a very nice setting. we even got to see some of our special needs friends at the show and got our hugs.

Anyway.... the day was beautiful. The family turnout was great. The kids got to ride in some super cars and trucks. And we're hoping to hear we raised a bunch of money for the cause. During the day the families got to vote on the car they liked as the Best of Show. That vehicle gets a nice trophy. After 5 hours of meeting new folks, talking to some of the regulars and telling 'Ethel's" story for a hundred times, Mum and I were very tired and started to pack up the truck for the ride home when a fellow walked over and told us not to pack up yet. When I ask why (I knew it was past the time we were required to stay), he just said we need a picture of the truck and you. I thought it was for the local papers article they do every year when the publish the turnout and how much $$ we raised. Then he said we also need you and your wife down front for the award presentation too. I didn't realize it right away but then they announced it over the Pa system... we had won the Best of Show trophy! COOL! It really was a georgeous day! And I found out that the picture they take this year goes on the t-shirt they'll sell at next years show. Here's Ethel in all her glory and with her tools on display. Next weeks show I'm going to take one of the pedal saws along to display too.

Default Recognition for Ethel

Thanks for sharing the good news with us, Pop. It is always nice to receive the recognition of your peers for a job well done. The fact that the show benefits the children just made it even more special. Hope to meet Ethel someday. Congratulations!! Dick

Hi Pop

What a wonderful truck - a workshop on it's own, what a great idea. Congratulations, too, on winning the prize, it shows how much others also appreciate the work you have done. Well done!

Congratulations, Pop. That truck is just awesome - I can't imagine how many hours you've put into that. A well deserved prize, and it's great that those $$ are being raised for such a worthwhile cause..
