I am looking at trying this on small pieces of board for Intarsia. Bill how did your soap work out? I can not seem to find Denatured alcohol at any size and only methyl hydrate in small bottles.

I notice you are in Canada and that is why it is hard to find DNA . Being in a border town I slip over the border to get mine.
The soap method might work good for some but it didn't work worth a hoot for me. I'm sticking with DNA .
I am not sure how any method will work on "boards" . It is primarilly used on hollowed items such as bowls etc on a lathe to speed drying without cracking and the normal warping is turned out in the final turning when it is put back on the lathe when dry. .
If you want to experiment with it on boards , you can get methyle hydrate in gallons from either Home Hardware or Canadian Tire . It works almost as good as DNA .

Thanks Bill. I understand that I am going to be soaking oposite to your bowls. but will try with 6" squares that are 1/2 to 1"thick and see what happens.

I've got to ask Alan.......Why?

With such a small, thin board, wouldn't a couple 45 second zaps in a microwave dry them out???

It could be that the micro wave would work and that will be tried. The only wood I have ever dried was thousands of board feet of Western Red Cedar. and for that I built a drying shed with fans that dried it down to around 8%.
But with the small size that I now want to dry and the odd shapes of wood grain that I want for Intarsia I am lost on how to do it right.
I bought a 18" bandsaw to cut my own wood as I can get a lot of it free, but drying burls and joints would not be easy with air drying.
