I'm form upstate NY, I know a speckled trout, but what is a redfish? Is it good to eat? (Doesn't look it)

(BTW, the speckled trout looks more like a brown trout to me)

The Large trout was caught on a top water plug ( Top Dog {Black & White}) the red fish, along with three others about 16-17 inches each were caught on a soft plastic artificial 3 inch minnow (Avacado) with a # 4 colorado spinner blade attached. I caught several other smaller trout 12-14 inches and those were caught on a Speculizer ( This is a oval shaped popping cork with wire running through it, and brass and glass beads and a soft plastic shrimp beneath it, I rig my own, as the store bought ones cost about six bucks each. they were cought from a boat, we fish from a small 16 ft. flat boat with a 40 Hp. Johnson on it, its great for getting into the marsh. however all of these fish were cought on the edge of a bay. I know your a fisherman by your name, and I hope it does not seem like I'm talking down to you by explaining every thing, but I know that alot of these baits are area specific, and did not know if you had any of these in your area. The red fish are really good eating also, although I find the 16-18 inch ones taste better than the larger ones. I like to cut the fillets off, but leave the scales on. I then place then on the grill scale side down, and slow cook them basting with seasoned butter. Youdont flip them at all. the scales act like a pan. It is a very hard scalled fish, They are aso great stuffed and baked, as well as blackened, or fried.

Muzzleloader,
Red fish despite its looks really is pretty good, it is a member of the drum family, and while they are tough to fillet due to large rib bones, they really do cook up quite well. There is a dish made famous down here called blackened red fish that really put red fish on the map. When I was younger, we use to throw them back as they were considered trash fish. But chef paul prudone from down here in new orleans has several really good recipes for cooking it. not to mention they are alot of fun to catch as they are hard fighting fish the legal limit here is five per day, and only one can be over 27 inches and all must be atleast 16 inches. the smaller ones being the best ones to eat. Ive caught brown trout in MO.along with rainbow trout, speckle trout is a saltwater fish.I have a sticker of the speckle trout, and one of the red fish on my rear window, and when I go up north, people always ask "WHAT KINDA FISH IS THAT" lol

Wink

I think I'd rather cut one of Carter J's 1000 piece jigsaws with the blade in backwards and upside down, than go fishing.
One of life's necessary, but boring activities...
