Default Received Storage and Display Case Gift

My wife gave me this pen display case as a birthday gift this morning . She got it from Woodcraft. I am wondering if this is the way most of them are designed ? There is elastic and grooves for 48 pens in both the top and bottom portion. The pens have to be put into every other groove in order for the lid to close but it still holds 48 quiite nicely .
Actually it looks good with the space between them because they would be too close together if not staggered out a little like that.

I ran two pens short of filling it when loading it up but then I don't normally keep many more than 50 pens as backup stock . I was up to 57 last week but mail orders were pretty good latley so I am now slightly below my normal amount.

Out to the shop to make more. . . .

Nice case and pens. Should be a good way to display them.

Thanks Rick.

It is so nice and flat when closed . Only 12" x 14" and only 1.5" deep.
It is going to be so handy to take on trips with me because it takes so much less room in my vehicle than my shop made wooden one. I will be able to pop into gift shops and stationery stores more often now and show them my latest stock . I don't leave pens on consignment but I give them a good wholesale cash price when they are buying quantities at a time.

Bill that is a wonderfull gift. what a thoughtfull wife. I wonder if the space might just be that, a space. just so the pins fit nicely. that would be my thought. you pins are wonderfull. your wife must think so also. Happy birthday my friend. Evie

Evie;
The spaces actually has elastic in them just like the ones where the pens are placed . If the pens were put into every groove both top and bottom, then the 1.5" total depth of the case is not deep enough for it to close.
With them staggered in the grooves from top to bottom they fit between each other when the case is closed .
I think it is designed like that because it is sold as a 48 pen case .

Good point Evie.
I have found out on a couple turning boards that those elastic bands have been know to have a bad effect on the finish on some pens (depending on the type of finish) . That is somehing I am going to monitor closely and if it happens I might have to resort to using it as a storage case by loading up just the bottom half and either just sit the pens on top of the elastic or remove the elastic altogether. It would still hold 24 that way so would still be quite useful for taking into gift shops and stationery stores etc to get them to look them over and purchase some for re-sale.
