| saw dust colection Ok, one more. I don't have a dust colecter. and was wondering , I any of you have done something like this. on my new band saw. I was thinking of putting a cavise bag around the bottom. and a dust port to guid it into the bag for now. also. on my table saw. one of those cool canvis bags, snaped to the sides of the table saw. to catch the saw dust. also. some tubes or what ever to the other sanders to go in there(4" belt sander/disk). whould that be helpfull. or am I just dreaming of a way to catch the saw dust with out a big old machine. thanks Evie |

| Sounds like that will collect the saw dust alright. I supose there are a variety of ways to collect saw dust.
I worry about the air born dust, as I have two friends with cancer that was attributed to the saw dust from some of the woods that they routinely work with.

| Should do the trick for the stuff that falls. Try the box fan/furnace filter to help with airborne dust, it might just suprise you.

| Evie,
You will not be happy with collector bags. They allow for a lot of air born dust. A two stage collector housed outside your shop and piped inside is the only way to go. The added expense is well worth it. You need something that really sucks. Hehe

| I just bought a 20 year collection of "wood" magazines from a fella. As I have been looking through them I have come across 3 or 4 in depth articles about making your own system. I'll find them again today or tomorrow and send along the magazine numbers and that might help you with some ideas. There were also a couple of articles about making a filter system to catch the airborne particles. That whole airborne thing is cool because I can finally put that old broken down swamp cooler part to work for me.

| I put a vac at each tool. They had small vac's on sale for $15 each and I bought five of them. After hooking them up directly to each machine, including a band saw, I plugged the band saw and the vac into the same power strip and use the switch on that power strip to turn the saw and the vac on and off together. Works well.

| I'd be interested in those articles, too, John (Powakee). I do have a couple of exhast fans from which I could make my own system.
And, Jim, what brand and model of vac did you buy, and where did you get them?
I'm thinking that with a dedicated vac for each tool along with a self-made airborn system, I should be ok. (I like making my own stuff - no expensive logos, AND I know how the thing works and how to fix it!)
