Default Cherry That Escaped Being Burned.

My neighbor asked me if I could use some of the orchard cherry wood that he was going to burn in his burn pile when he was clearing out some trees that were so old that they were not bearing much fruit any more .
I said sure . . it's good for turning as well as for firewood so he delivered a log and some big branches right to me the same day. That was over a year ago . I cut them down into smaller pieces and sticker dried them and now I have a bunch that is all ready for turning..
One of the nicest things I like about turning is that I can put a 4" x 4" square x 12 inch long piece of wood on the lathe and turn it round and then shape it into something like this and apply a finish right on the lathe before parting it off and it is totally finished all within an hour. . . It is the only type of woodworking that I have been able to get that much satisfaction from.
Thanks for looking and of course critiques are welcome.
W.Y.

It's beautiful Bill. I can understand how you feel. The pleasure in finishing a piece is a great feeling.

Theressa.
The black stripes are just burned in with a wire like was mentioned in another one of the turning topics in the off topic board recently.
Just a piece of wire (I uses a guitar string) held against the wood while it is turning at high speed. Takes a couple seconds to burn lines in like that and I use it for small things like pens sometimes as well as is shown in the center band of these pens.
First one is box elder burl and the second one is deer antler.
