Hi guys, I am going to buy a new band saw. and the one I like is only a 3/4 horse power. and the other is the same everything, except. 1 horse power. I like the ones with the deeper trouts. and higher horse power. and the exstintions to make the cutting from 6' to 12 inch. but. I am limited on elctric, so. I do, do, resawing. so what would you sugjest on horse power. so if I wonted to resaw a board. say only 6". what horse power would I need. to do a good job. say in oak. for along time. also. this would have a 93.1/2 blade. those seem to be the best sizes. to get all the cool blades. like the As-s. blades for resawing. but just wondering about the horse power. thanks Evie Dont wont to get something that would burn up to fast. Heck , I wont to Work it like crazy.

Evie, being limited to 110V I would recommend a 1 1/2 or 2 HP saw. Mine is 1 1/2 HP and I've resawn 12" W Brazilian cherry without problem. If I were buying today, I'd give the Rikon (about$750) serious consideration. 13" resaw capacity without a riser block, 2HP motor, and lots of cast iron.

Evie I have a Delta with the riser (105" blade) 1 1/2 horsepower. I just added the Carter roller bearing guides. I am very pleased withe the saw. But If I were buying a saw now I would follow Kevins suggestin and check out the Rikon.

Our Woodcraft just had demo on bandsaws. You will either need a riser or a bigger saw. I have the 14" Jet without riser and really am limited to what I can resaw. I would say that right now the saw to get is the Rikon. Great resaw capability and appears to be very well made. I may have to eat my investment in blades and get a riser. Earl |

I have a chance to get a Grizzley 14" band saw for $275.00 which looks to be in pretty good shape. Any opinions? Is it worth it? All comments would be appreciated.

I have the G0555 with the 6" riser block. I've had it for about 3 years now and have absolutely no complaints. It powers through very hard woods without bogging down and all in all I think it is the best bandsaw value on the market.

Kevin, that is the same saw I am looking at. the G0555. and the riser is in my book, $59.00. shipping , $69.00 sounds cheap. but it is a 1 horse power. it does go up on the higher horse powers. and trout debt. but I thingk this might be all I might need. thanks for your imput. that sounds lilke the one I could be saticfied with. how is the waranty thing. I have never bought from , Grizzly befor. also. I would like to go look at the Rikon. where do I go? who sels it? thanks all. your all the greatiest. your friend Evie PS. funny, I went out to look at hubbys BS. and it is only a 1/2 horse. dang. it cuts up a storm. so a 1 horse should do the job. |
