I thought I'd introduce you folks to the newest member of my family.
Patches 002.jpg Patches 003.jpg
This is Patches, dosen't he have the face of an angel! Well don't be deceived he has the mind of a Devil.
Either he's too young for me or I'm too old for him, he sure runs me ragged.
He's a ten week old pure bred Beagle, cute as a button, but I don't think he'll be winning best in show.

I use to have a pair of beagles as a kid, great little dogs. Just don't let him get the scent of something because he'll be on the run. Congrats on your new addition!!

What a cutie!!!! I'm a sucker for dogs, especially the hunting breeds! I hope you have many, many years of enjoyment with that pup.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, He is a real hellion as Tom said.
BTW Tom, your story was so funny I LMAO
Thanks

OH, I have one word of advice for anyone who's planning on getting a pup at this time of the year, DON'T. In our winter climate, it's next to impossible to train him, with 3 feet of snow in the yard.

I grew up in Wiisconsin, and I remember getting an Alaskan Mallamute pup in the winter thinking that she would be just fine in the snow. We'll as gravity would have it, she sunk also, and I learned a real lesson about puppy care. It's a lot of work. Beagles are definitely cute. I''m sure hell give you years of pleasure.

Marsha,
Wow! He's adorable! I have two beagles as well. One I 'rescued' from the Vetrinary College in Guelph. She was two years old, and lived her entire life in her crate. The medical records that came with her, showed she had gone through some painful procedures. The university students were paid to walk all the dogs belonging to the vets-in-training, twice a day, and then it was back to procedures and the crate. Once a vet graduates, their little specimens (beagles) are offered up for adoption if procedures on them were not too damaging....I was lucky to get 'Patsy', as she is not a typical beagle, and she was the last one of the group to get adopted.
When we brought her home she was terrified of the fridge coming on, the television, the radio....you name it. But when we took her to the SPCA dogpark (Dartnall Rd.) she just ran & ran for a solid hour with this huge grin on her face; her nose to the ground and her tail in the air. When beagles get a scent, their singlemindedness have often led many a beagles to an early demise; so hopefully you have a secure backyard.
We ended finding a 'sister' beagle for 'Patsy' to keep her company. (beagles are pack animals, and it helped tremendously...they keep each other busy during their runs at the dogpark once a week).
I'm hooked on beagles now, and don't think I could ever go back to another bread. They are so loving, and just want to be with you 24/7.
BTW, Dr. Stanley Coren gave beagles a rating of 72/100 for trainablity....cos their noses just keep on smelling and it's hard to get/keep their attention. But I found fives minutes of training at a time throughout the day makes a remarkable difference for heeling, sitting, staying, etc.....and food lures work great with these little over-eaters for training.
Marsha, I know you;ll have many happy years with Patches. You are so lucky!

Sorry, I wasn't very clean on the rating for trainablity for beagles. Out of 100 breeds, beagles come in 72nd. Border Collies are #1 for trainablity.
