mmmm... nope...if i purchased the machine from a good CNC manufacturing company at a high price..Then perhaps,I not take the credit of woood working... But in a country where i live, very few people saw the CNC machine... and I made it with local resources...
So atleast for me i am taking the complete credit...n when i see the machine cutting the work piece as per my desire....I cant express my happiness in words....I feel like i am a wood worker....

This CNC machine is simply a Hi-Tech cookie cutter. Congratulations on creating the machine itself, but the "work" it produces can be done by a monkey with enough training. Anything it produces is the same as the previous one cut whereas with REAL woodworking each finished piece holds it's own identity.

You've posted enough that the forum automatically promoted you to "member"

If a CNC rough cut the work and carving was completed by hand, with tools used by hand, I would consider it handmade, because your actual hands have worked the wood. As BobD said, we use saws to rough cut blanks and shapes etc. We use tools, but we use them with our hands, we don't just stand by and watch, and then take credit for something we call handmade. I guess that's what bothers me, taking credit for handmade art when all you did was stand by and watch. If you make the machine you are a great machinest, inventer, computer programer or whatever.

Debate is good. I'm really impressed by the way everyone is keeping this civil and intellectual, and not personal. This discussion is about the process and the tools. I'm glad everyone is keeping that in mind...not taking things personally, and keeping it about the tools and process. It's a healthy debate on an issue that is becoming more and more relevant.

Let me stir this a bit more.

Is the creation of your own CNC machine (from design to completion) artistry? That's like asking if a video game programmer is an artist...

Is the creation of your own custom patterns art? Not only is the design itself origional, but the transfer to a pattern readable by the CNC is a process in itself. WHat looks good on paper may not produce the desired effect when it comes to creating the final piece.
