Default More turny spinny things ..

A couple of bowls I finished at the weekend.

The pictures don't quite do them justice the walnut one in particular - it has some beautiful figure and almost shimmers when it's tilted in the light.

They're both about 7" diameter.

Looking good Ian! I like the forms........ How thick are the walls? And bottoms man, bottoms. Show us pics of your bowl bottoms from time to time.

You want to see his what?
Those bowls look great, did you turn them green?
I love the way walnut finishes. That reminds me I have a huge black walnut log in the garage somewhere that I sealed the ends on.

Thanks for the comments

Here you go Barry - I hadn't realised you were a bottom man ...

Walls of the walnut one are about 1/4 inch thick. The rim is a little thicker. The walls on the olive one taper from the rim to the base just under 3/8 to around a half - it's got a much "chunkier" feel.

Rolf: no they weren't turned green - both blanks were dry when I got them.

Those are beautiful Ian!! I so love turned stuff, especially with gorgeous grain in the woods. I love the picture of the bottom of the olive one.

Great turning there Ian.
Gotta love walnut for both turning and finishing.
This is one of the nicest things about lathe turning . No patterns required and we never ever see two identical pieces. Every single piece has a unique character all of its own. That is one of the many things that make turning such great sellers at craft sales.

Very nice bowls. I rather like olives, with the way the colours change. Mediterranean Olive makes great skies, BTW I can't think of any woods I dislike, so your are doing well with all of your wood choices
