Good Stuff Jerry,

I've also enough stuff to make with out adding turning to my list.
So pleeeeeeeeeeeease stop inspiring me. LOL

Nice looking pens! You probably noticed, that spinny stuff is addicting. So what kind of lathe did you get????? What are yu going to turn?????

and John, just buy the lathe now. It actually saves you money as you won't need anymore non-turning tools.

Nice pens. They are lots of fun. It is the only thing I have attempted on my husband's lathe, but love to make them. Once you get comfortable making them, go to William Young's web site for inspiration. To answer Jim8Mad, it does not look like blood to me... is the first pen made of box elder (or Manitoba Maple). It has red running through it.

All of these are made from rose wood I think it's just the lighting that made it look like that.Jerry

Nice pens there. I've thought about doing some, and I have some (~15 feet of 3/4" sq) nice ebony that was given to me. (I know about the value of that!)

Just remember your scrollsaw as you have fun making great things by spinning wood.

Nice stuff Jerry! The ones in the second picture look really comfortable to use.
I wish I could get a lathe, but I live in an apartment and the other tenants probably wouldn't like the volume. I have my scrollsaw mounted on blocks of styrofoam as it is.

Aside from the clacking of roughing to round, the noise of a lathe is just the rumble of the motor and the hiss of the chisel slicing the wood. Nothing awful in the noise department, and nowhere near loud enough to require ears being covered.
