Default York PA Show - made out like a bandit!

Well, we went to the woodworking show today in York. There wasn't a whole lot of people there, course we didn't get there until noon, but I had fun & got some great stuff. Before we even went into the building, we stopped by the Mizer Saw guys & watched them. There was a piece of blackwalnut I wanted and got. When talking to the guy, he said by the way that whole stack of wood over there is only $20, you interested? It was blackwalnut they were cutting demonstrating the saw. Was I interested? for $20? You bet I was. Oh by the way, in the FREE pile take what you want. Interested in this piece of 100 year old english walnut we trimmed off for someone earlier? Me, interested? Of Course! And see this black cherry? We'll throw it in for FREE! Do you want it? And that stack over there, that's also free. So for $36 I got a stack of blackwalnut approximately 5 feet long, 2 1/2 feet high and 10-14 inches wide, 3/4" thick! All perfectly flat PLUS the free Black cherry piece, Plus the free english walnut! Now that's a deal! We're going to dip the ends in paint tomorrow and stack them with sticks between to dry them out. The guy said as long as it isn't raining, we could let it dry outside for a bit then take it inside when the weather gets bad. Weather is supposed to be good for a few days, so we'll put it in the shed when it rains & leave it there. Then someone was coming out and gave us their stickers to get in, for FREE! Then I met some of the greatest guys at the Tri-County scrollers booth and was talking about the problem I was having with my blades breaking. Seems they are having the same problems, so now I'm thinking it's not me but the blades. Oh here are 6 six blades of Pegas for you to try - FREE! Course, I did leave behind some money, thought I would try the PSI Blades, pricey but I did use them one time and liked them. Heck if they don't break like the ones I have now, it would be worth the price. Then complained to the guy from Bush that I got their finish last year and didn't like it, and he gave me 2 rolls of the self-stick sandpaper - FREE! But I did buy more as I do like their sandpaper.
All in all, a very profitable day - for me!

Betty

I know who I need to go to shows with from now on. My mom was in Home Depot buying tile for a backsplash and the rep was there placing orders to restock the shelves. He inquired as to what she was doing and then offered her a box of tile to include in the project. She was thinking it would be a couple of pieces and turned out to be close to $250 worth of tile FREE. Needless to say they have a much nicer backsplash now...but the down side is that dad had to custom cut all the other pieces to include the free stuff. Mom said it was ok with her that he did the extra work. LOL

Congrats on the haul (both of you). Thinking of custom cut tiles reminds me of my mom doing the mosaic in the centre of our kitchen floor. Many 1/4" thick, 1" square, glass tile cut down on the tile saw to then be ground to exact shape fore the flower like designs. Lots of work, but it looks great. (Although I spent a lot of time cutting the oak and cherry for the counter, so who am I to talk about excessive work?)

Talk about being at the right place, at the right time. Congrats on your big score. I've heard rumors about deals like that during the last day of the show. They don't want to haul things home, sooooo. Any way have many hour of fun with all that wood---Richard aka thumbs
