Default Bragging Again (For somebody else)

G'day All,
Not much going on this morning. Can't seem to get used to Daylight Saving, to early to hit the shed and start disturbing the neighbours so I thought I'd share these with you.

My Dad made this for us for Xmas last year.
It is a nice piece in itself, but when you consider that Dad is blind it becomes remarkable.
It does something to me - I always feel rather emotional when I look at it (enough girl stuff )
He has Stargartz (sp) which was only diagnosed a few years ago, although he has been going blind since he was a teenager.
He is 72 and retired from work about 20 years ago because of his eyes.

G'day Evie,
Thanks on behalf of the "Old Man".
He is legally blind, although he can see enough to get about. The remarkable thing about him is that he only really admitted it to himself and others about 20 years ago.
He did an apprenticeship as a Mechanical Fitter and not long after he had finished an married Mum a Doctor suggested he find some other type of work as if his eyes continued to deteriorate he would be unable to continue fitting.

So he packed up the old Ford ute, Mum, Me (only 3) and my sister 18mths and moved 1000kms away down South and bought a Farm.

From what he tells me is he has no central vision. What he sees is like a ring.

Thanks Theresa

All I can say is, that is a beautiful clock and your Dad is a true inspiration to us all. Obviously some of it and talent wore off onto you!

That is great looking clock
People take what they have for granted to much like your eyes who thinks they would ever lose sight
Take a minute close your eyes and think about it or how about not haveing use on one of your hands give it a try you will be surprise

What a beautiful clock!!! Your dad is really talented, such great work. I admire him for not letting his vision problems keep him from using his talents.

John.
That is wonderful that your dad is still able to produce something as nice as that clock . He deserves a lot of credit for his perseverence .
When you said

Quote:
From what he tells me is he has no central vision. What he sees is like a ring.
I am wondering if it was macular degeneration that caused his eye condition. I have macular degeneration only in one eye which started to develpop in the last couple years and is now beyond correction with a prescription lens. It has got to the point where it is dark in the center but I can partly see in the ring around it similar to what you mentioned.
My other eye is still able to be corrected with a prescription lens and I am on natural medication to slow down the progression in that one. So far . . so good. .There is no known surgery for my condition.

Say HI to your dad from me and congratulate him on his great work. A guy like that sure deserves a pat on the back.
W.Y.

Wow. That is a great clock, and especially to be done blind.

G'day all,
I posted the URL for this thread to my little Sister and thought that you may be all interested in what she had to say.

"Wow, that has left me speechless.
I have spent most of the night reading the forums,: what nice, supportive people. Funny that people U have never met R probably a lot nicer than a lot U have."
