Default My New TOY arrived Today.

G'day all,
I'm bragging and smiling ear to ear.
I laid down $750 on Thursday for 14" band saw and it turned up today.
Spent a good part of the day putting it together and another good part moving the old one (8.5") and making room in the shed.
It sure makes the sawdust fly.
Now when I get a chance I've gotta do some re-arranging in my shed just to make it comfortable.

Feel kinda like a traitor retiring the little one as I have used and abused it and it has never let me down.

Hey John: Walt Rollison here in East Tennessee. Your new band saw will be great, but I find I still use my little 10" saw quite often. Since, at the moment, I'm doing more turning than scrolling, my larger saw gets a lot of use cutting out bowl blanks and knocking edges off spindles.
Best regards, Walt/Litlhof

Congrats John! How fun to have a new toy. I'd like to have a bigger bandsaw myself for resawing. My little one (9 incher) does a lot of stuff but it's definitely limited for some things. Have fun with it!!

I'm envious. Like Chris I have a nine inch one and already "inchin" to get a bigger one. Only one hitch money. But I am working on it :-).
Enjoy! Can't wait to see what you use it for.

Wow JohnB....and it isn't even Christmas yet.
Isn't it strange some feelings we humans get about retiring some of our tools, but then again maybe just maybe you can use both.
Good Luck and I too will be eager to see what projects you come up with now.

Hay little brother. yaaaaaay. you diserve it. new toys are the best. but I agree, don't retire the little guy. he still has lots of use. and you can find the room. I have 5 sewing machines. and they all work. and still use them all. when my grand daughters. and grand son comes over. we can all play with fabric, and have are own sewing machine. ps. they all have bids on the one they use the most. also. its a carry on when moveing around. leave the king tool at home. thats yours. only you can use it. teach on the old one. just my 2 cts. your friend Evie

Congrats on the toy. What brand did you choose, and what were your deciding factors? If its a Jet, I know of a place to get a great deal on the riser kit for the Jet 14 inch. dale

G'day Dale,
This is the one:
http://www.carbatec.com.au/store/ind...80_320_540_560
I wanted something with a reasonable re-saw depth, Roller bearing guides and a fence.
Of course price was a big factor
The carbatec was available in Perth and freight to Kal was only $45.00.
I did look seriously at the Jet, but it was only available from Queensland @ $761.00
Freight was just over $100.00 plus a fence was extra $89.00 and re-saw was 150mm. From memory I think the micro roller guides where optional as well at about $90.00 a set.

The 2 speed was not a concern but it may come in handy one day.

Thanks for the offer on the riser kit.

G'day Evie.
I will keep the little bloke. I hate chucking anything out, especially when it still works.
I still have my Ryobi and Delta scroll saws under a bench. They haven't been used in while but they both still work.

I NEED A BIGGER SHED
or as my wife calls it "Junk Storage

I'm having fun.

Congrats on obtaining a great new tool. The fun of the box is a wonderful thing indeed, and it will draw you into the shop more for a while.
