Hi Fred, I only found a 4"1/2 in Rockler catalog.
www.rockler.com just a thought, how about a heavy-duty circle cutter that cuts from 1"1/4 to 6"
don't know what he is cutting, but if the wood was clamped down good, and put on a good drill press. that might work. here is another cataloge. they have alot of boring bits . and forstners.
www.ridgecarbidetool.com hope you can find some thing there. Evie

Hi again Fred, I thought I would look into My Klockit cataloge, www.klockit.com they sell alot of big clock parts and other stuff, but there forstners are not any bigger. the Circle Cutter they have is $19.99 with replacement blades $5.99. the forstners are very exspensive, I would be curius, if they even make a forstner bit that big. maybe in iron work or something. or even ship building, maybe you could Guggal those resorses. hope you find what your looking for, and if you find one. let us know. I normaly cut my 6" clock insert holes out on my scrollsaw. and sand down to the line. but if he is boring something for a dowl or something, maybe even a log cabin type of a thing. your friend Evie

Fred
These aren't forstner bits but they have the size you need. They are hole saws used by plumbers. Don't know if this will help, but it's worth a look.

Good luck.

Fred, that would be one mother of a bit. Two suggestions, depending on how your friend is planning on using it:
1) use a "circle cutter" for a through hole that is good up to 7-7/8", or
2) make a template and use a router with a dado bit for a stopped hole to clean out the circle and leave a flat bottom.

Fred... I'm not even sure you can get a hole saw that big. If his biggest concern is a flat bottom cut because of an insert of somekind he may want to farm it out to someone with a lathe that can cut them down nice and smooth. I had to do a plaque once with a large (7-1/2") cast emblem in it that I had to turn out on my wood lathe using a bowl face plate.
