Default Legal/illegal

Hi everyone:
Recently someone asked for holiday patterns, so I responded that in one of the "other" magazines my favorite halloween figures were compound figures by Diana Thompson called "Ghouls of the Dance." These patterns were in the fall 2001 issue of "SSWS," I thought a library in the seeker's home town might have a copy of this, but they didn't.
Is it legal for me to copy these patterns and email them as attachments to anyone?
Just wondering. Walt Rollison/Litlhof

Hi Walt, in my humble opinion I do not think you should photo copy the patterns and send them to your friend, I think you should suggest he purchase the copy of the SSW&C mag that the patterns were featured in, you can find out if this issue is still available by checking over here on the left at the top of the screen where it says Order Back Issues. Failing that you could send your friend to Diana Thompson's website where the patterns are probably available for purchase. To get to Diana's website, once again have a look over here on the left and you'll find Other Great Sites, she's listed under Artisans I believe.
It really isn't fair for any of us to be passing around patterns that belong to designers who are trying to make a living from their efforts.

Hi Marsha: I couldn't agree with you more and I will follow your suggestion. When I bought the 3D pattern books from Diana, I dealt directly with her. I am not sure who the person was who posted the query, but I think his name was Dave.
Best regards, Walt Rollison Seymour,TN.

I know, when I was new to scrolling, I Didn't know lickaty spit about copy rights, and sharing patterns. and got slam duncked, like alot of us did, and some of the things, that was said, was egnorance is no excuse. WELLLLL. Huh. I came from a long time of sharing sewing patterns with family and friends. and I didn't know any better. I also belonged to a tmarie group. and copeyd some of the tamaries off the web, also being internet stupid. boy I got it again. I was , so ashamed, but when I talked to the sight holder, apologized, and offer to pay her for doing so. she was so nice, let me have them, and ask that I would not shar them. patterns i mean. I wish there was a better way to handale the copy right thing, with out embarsing are new commers. I love the way Marsha explained. but it is no crime to ask, and have some one explain. thanks Marsha. just wonted to say all that.
