Default Copy rights

I need some information on copy rights. I am currently working on some clock patterns that I have designed. Can some one tell me how I go about getting a copy right or patten on this, or how to at least check if it's been done before. This is my first attempt, and I don't want to inadvertently come up with a pattern that someone else has all ready done.

Thanks from

Jeff I didn't see any copyright symbol on it.
