Default Crowley Lake Retreat

wow, I've been gone 5 day's and there was 78 new posts, to bad I lost them because I was to tired to read any last night....

as for my retreat, I spent the last 5 day's at Crowley Lake up in the eastern sierras of California to fish a trout derby where you can only use a float tube and a fly rod. The object of the game is to catch a trout 18 inches or bigger.
the lake is 300 miles from me and takes 6 hours to get to so I go up a couple day's early to pre-fish. the fishing was kind of slow but I did manage to catch some nice fish....

my camp...this is one of the few times where you can camp out by the lake...

my view from camp...

to the left...

to be continued....

here I am ready to go fishing...

this is my buddy who has been going up with me the last couple of years...

being that that the lake is at 7,000 ft it get's cold at night and got down into the 20's so by 8'o clock it was time to retreat to the camper and nothing better than a Irish coffee to help warm you up...

to be contunued...

Saturday was derby day...
it was a small turn out this year with only 202 anglers fishing the derby, usually there is close to 300 of us...

by the time I took these pictures everyone had spread out...

I was one of the lucky 85 anglers who caught a qualifying fish. I caught one 18 inches but that was it...it takes 3 fish over 18 to put you in the top 10 and 4 to win...

Saturday night after the derby dinner and awards we spent the night over at one of the campgrounds where we had a another friend and his wife staying...
after a long day of float tubing there's nothing better than a couple of Irish coffees and Advil

Sunday, time to make the 6 hour trip home...
that's after a stop at the local fish hatchery to see what a winning fish looked like...

where were they when I needed them...

Default to make this scroll saw related...

Back in 2004 they started to give away some really nice fish carvings for the trophy's and that's when I got the scroll sawing bug.
I know I couldn't carve one but I sure could cut one out with a scroll saw...

I wish I had the camera to take this years trophy, it was a log dug out with 2 trout carved in the back of it...

thanks for looking....

Looks like a fun time in a great place. I look out over water from my window, but it doesn't end for well over 2000 miles.
