| Need help with pricing Hello all,
Didn't know quite where to put this but I will try here, I am doing a project for my boss, he wants me to trim the corners of 2' X 4"X 1" planks (he will use these for signs in our store, I am also routing and nice edge on each of them. I will have 60 boards to trim, I am just wondering if you were asked to do this how much would you charge? Can you help with any suggestions? I am thinking of charging him 3.50 per board? I started using my scroll saw to cut the edges and it was taking about 15 min for 2 boards, but I have tried my band saw tonight and it takes about 5 min per board maybe less (I wasn't watching the time only my fingers). I will probably continue with the band saw as it is quicker and I seem to be able to cut the corners ok . And any little mistakes are handled when I rout the edges.. Well any help will help!
Thanks!

| Shirley, I would suggest you make a hardboard or plywood template to clamp on the board, and follow that with a router with a pattern bit. It will go pretty quick, and they would all be uniform, then rout your fancy edges. I think $3.50 sounds fair for the milling. You arent finishing them too are you? Dale |

| Hi Dale, Thanks for the response, I am not finishing them and I am getting the 3.50 per board. My boss liked them when he saw the first 5 I took in today. The place where he bought them had already stained them , then they cut them to size. Not quite what they should have done, but after putting the edge on them they really look good, he is almost thinking about not staining them again as the contrast of the stained and unstained does look kind of nice. But he will probably stain anyways. I am still using the scroll saw as it cuts a much better edging with no freying on the back, the band was causing me to sand on the back of the custs. I use a 5R blade and was able to cut 10 and also rout the edges tonight on ten of them in about 1 1/2 hours, so should have them done by this weekend. At least it is giving me practice using the router, which I was not fond of with the high speed, (i am using my husbands) I have a palm router which I am hoping to have installed in my next bench I need to put in. I will send a picture of on tomorrow.
Again,. much for the advice.
