| I Just Had To Try It. I have seen so many nice miniature wood turnings on the internet so I figured it was time to try my very first one.
This is bocote wood . It isn't REAL small but is a good starting place to hone my skills a little and make some specialized miniature tools to make some smaller ones.
Here is bocote goblet beside a Canadian dime . Or maybe it's an egg cup for a very tiny birds egg . . Hee... Hee
And here is bocote goblet sitting on top of a stick pin (tack)
I was a little amazed at how easy these actually were to make.
Sorry about the out of focus pictures.

| I tried to get a better picture this morning. This one was taken in the great outdoors. Pretty hard to beat good old natural light.
The miniature still shows black but that was because that piece of bocote was almost as black as ebony.

| When you have goblets that small you also need a small bottle of wine so you don't waste any while filling the goblet. So I made one of those today as well . It is red wine . . . or is it just that I made the bottle with purpleheart wood so it looks like grape wine hee hee .

| Just because I could . . .
I know some have turned miniatutes out of toothpicks so I have a LONG way to go . It was fun trying though. I know a few turners that sell miniatures for big bucks to collectors but their quality is much better than mine. But hey . . its my first attempt so there is hope for me yet .

| Do you still have all your fingers. How did you hold on to it? Cut it out of a big chunk of wood?

| they look just great to me bill, and for your first attempt too, i can foresee lots of great stuff heading our way.
i recently turned a vase and a lidded vessel, i also turn the inside of the items too, but always get stuck when trying to flatten the inside bottom of them, i need some sort of scraper tool to flatten it, so if you invent one, please let me know how you did it. |

Try using the end of an old file. Carefully grind a bevel on it first.
