Default Medical question

About 3 weeks ago I had a defibrillator implant to control my erratic heart beats. My question is; does anyone else have a defibrillator and if so do the motors from the saws, sanders, and planners affect it? The manual and the instructors say, 'just stay 12 inches or 24 inches away from the motor and you will be OK.; However, I am still leary as sometimes it may be difficult to maintain a distance while concentrating on the work. Thanks for your input.

I am new to this forum, but I do have an answer to your question as I am a physician. About the only thing that will affect a defibrillator is a direct shock. The proximity to motors of the size in home woodworking equipment shouldn't make any difference. You should stay back from a microwave oven about 2 feet when it is on. Hope this is helpful.

Default Defibrillator

Hillmanjim. Don't worry about your defibrillator. I have had one for seven years now. Not any problems with anything in my shop. Just take it easy for a while, take care of yourself and continue to have fun making sawdust. There isn't much in everyday life that will affect them. Read your owner manual (hee hee). I have been thinking about getting USB port under my thumb nail. So I can access the miniature computer that is inside the AICD. (LOL). What ever you do, don't let it control your life. Don't fear it. It's there to give you a better life. So go ahead and enjoy life, you only get one don't waste it.
