Default My Latest Toy . . errr . . Tool

This electric log splitter arrived to my US Fed-X depot just over the border late yesterday afternoon . I picked it up and brought it home and assembled it before supper. Bit of a gut stretcher when in the box at 55 kg (121 lbs) but now with the wheels on it is easily transportable by picking up the light end.

So I went out after supper and split the little pile of wood shown right behind it. That thing makes splitting firewood a real fun experience.

The one end was in the shade when I took the picture and doesn't show very good.

Here is my winning bid for it on Ebay with pictures and specs.. He has lots more if anyone is interested in getting one. I bid on the same model half a dozen different times and every time it went over my intended limit of $250.00 I let somebody else win.

You will love a splitter. I have a very large commercial log splitter and it is fun to operate and watch the wood break up. If you have ever done it by hand before then it's even more fun to watch. Enjoy it Bill

Thanks Diane.
I realy didn't know how much power an electric one would have so I started out cautiosly.

I had a 12" diameter piece of birch with a big knot in it that I was saving as a test piece. I had previously tried to split it with a heavy splitting maul but it just bounced off it. I could have split it with a sledge hammer and steel wedge but I saved it as a chopping block when making cedar kindling.
So my first few tries on the splitter were 6 or 8 " ones and it just slid right through them slicing them in half.
Then I tried the ugly 12" birch one and it sliced it in half like it was cutting cream cheese. Then I split each half into three pieces .

Yep, After all the cords of wood I have split over the years with axe's and mauls and wedge and sledge, this makes wood splitting fun . . . fun . . . fun . . . Just push the little levers down on the end and grin like a cheshire cat while it does all the work.

Did I mention that I really like my little splitter ?

You can see some of the wood I have split the hard way in the last couple years in this album
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/...40&uid=1718813.
I have burned firewood all my life and always split it the hard way. But now I am getting ancient and I am awaiting an appointment to check ot what I am led to believe is a torn rotator cuff so the splitter was a necessity for me and still cheaper than buying wood or gas or electricity. 95% of my wood is free.

Bill, just don't split too much wood. Wouldn't want you to get a SPLITTING headache.
