| Purina Diet Yesterday I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my dog at Wal-Mart and was about to check out.
A woman behind me asked if I had a dog. On impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that I was starting the Purina Diet again. Although I probably shouldn't, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry and that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.)
Horrified , she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog
food poisoned me. I told her no; I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's butt and a car hit us both.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he
was laughing so hard!

| Hey Fred,
I love your sense of humour, and she justly deserved that yarn for asking such a stupid question in the first place.
Regards,
Marcel

| It's a funny story for sure, and definitely made me smile.
As some know, I am in the pet supply industry and I do carry a dog food that is actually eaten by the salesman that has to sell it, such as at stores or dog and cat shows. I'm trying to think the name of the product that I do believe is owned by purina, but isn't sold under the purina name. It's in a can and produced by and at the same factory that makes the gold star chili...almost the exact same product in fact.
It would not be wise to eat dog and cat food products in general as a dog/cat stomach has different tolerances than a humans. Food is pulled off the shelves for botulism and other tainted materials such as the recent arsenic episode, but the tolerances for botulism that a dog can handle are more than a human can. The food grade materials are thus generally much less than in human food, such as the chicken products, which are everything that is left after the good meat is removed, basically the rest being ground up and then actually liquified where it is pumped into a tanker truck and delivered to a factory. Still, regardless of any small safety issues, I still see the Hobo's in the dumpsters behind pet stores eating from cans of dog and cat food that has been discarded for any reason, be it expired, recalled, or just a dented can that nobody will buy. I haven't seen or heard of the Hobo's dying from it, and if it gives them the mild case of food poisoning once in a while, I'm sure they don't complain about it or report it to anyone.
