Default Mississippi Bridge Tragedy

Our thoughts and our prayers go out to all involved. May the Good Lord
bring his comfort and strength to all those who will need it.

It is a tragedy....I hope no one here was personally effected....my best wishes go out to everyone in the area, no matter if they are involved or not, anything that major and that close to home makes it personal...take care

Although my daughter nor her husband take that route to work, it still made me a bit apprehensive when I saw it on TV. I immediately called my daughter and she knew nothing about it. My wife does have a relative who stopped just short of the bridge as it was collapsing. It's pretty scary. Thank God they got the 60 children out of the school bus in time. This was a catastrophe but it could have been much worse. My heart goes out to the familys who still haven't received word from their loves ones that may have been on the bridge at the time.

That would make it pretty close to home all right Mike!! I am glad that none of your loved ones were harmed...Isn't it amazing that there seems to be more incidents where there are multiple deaths and injuries...but I guess it wouldn't have as much impact if the bridge fell down when no one was on it....almost makes you feel like a low cost ambulance chaser when you watch it on CNN...none of the media have any respect for people in shock...just stick a mike in their face and ask them how it felt to watch someone die....Now I remember why I don't watch as much TV...sorry one of my personal pet peeves is that there is very little GOOD news on TV and a plethora of everything painful, sad, distastful and heart rending....
Leaping off my soap box and donning my asbestos undies...

Stay on your soap box Jayne!!! I am in total agreement with you. We had a similar tragedy very near here in December 1967. The "Silver Bridge" between Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio collapsed into the Ohio River during rush hour claiming 47 lives. It was also on Rt. 35 although not the same Rt. 35 as the one in Minnesota. A Sci-Fi movie was made called "The Mothman Prophesy" which incorporated that disaster into the plot. The "Mothman", in reality, turned out to be a harmless Sandhill Crane that had taken up residence in a recreation area near the scene of the accident and struck terror in the hearts of the residents!!!?? I guess there will always be those who seek to benefit from the misfortune of others. I just happened to be at the site yesterday and lo and behold there's a big statue of.....guess what!!!! Yep!!!...The Mothman!!

Thanks Jayne. You are so right about the news. This is why I now walk my dog when the 10:00 news is on. I prefer to catch it online so I can pick and choose which stories I want to hear about.

I am glad that I am not the only one who dislikes the media's methods of getting "the story" ....How hard it must be for the families of the victims to watch the excitement of the passerby as he has his 10 minutes of fame discribing any tragedy he comes across...there must be a better way! With any luck no one here will ever have a personal experience...All the best to everyone....
