| Flooding in England I hope that the recent flooding in England has not affected any of our friends across the pond.

| Saw that on the news yesterday and Gill was the first thought that crossed my mind. I certainly hope that all is well with her as she had made some mention of the flooding near her in a previous post.

| My thoughts also turned immediately to Gill, and all our other friends from England, when I heard of the flooding. I too hope everything is OK. I know she will let us know as soon as she's able.

| Thanks for your concern. Fortunately, the area where I live hasn't been affected too badly. My home town, Bromsgrove, is completely dry under foot although I gather another town which is only 2 miles from us has taken a battering. I live about 50 miles north of Gloucester, where the worst flooding has been; Tewkesbury and Evesham have also been badly afflicted and they're 25 miles from me.
Some of these places have only just recovered from floods a few weeks ago. This summer has been awful for rain and major conurbations in the north of England (including the cities of Hull and Sheffield) were also flooded out earlier. According to the insurance companies, there aren't enough builders in the country to carry out repairs. It may prove to be the worst damage our country has sustained since World War 2.
Gill
PS the weather forecast is for more rain .

| I just jumped over and tried to get in the UK woodworking forum and I couldn't get in it.
I hope everything over there is OK.

| I'm surprised you couldn't log on, Bob - I've had no problems with it tonight and none have been reported.
The flooding doesn't seem to have worsened much today in the badly hit areas. Much of the environmental infrastructure has been hit though, and 350,000 people will be without a domestic water supply for up to two weeks. Furthermore, there are reports that the river Thames has burst its banks at Oxford . It's likely that there'll be further floods downriver towards London later this week, especially as more rain is being forecast in the south on Thursday.
