Question All This Lathe Talk?

Not that I mind, I find it all very interesting. But I am wondering with all the 'lathe' talk if Fox Publishing is looking to go into the 'TurningWood Magazine' business?

This is the Off Topic area. We talk about lots of interesting things here, including books and gas prices.

If they do that and they have gas at a lot better price than it is now , I am all for it.

But seriously, there are so many scrollers and wood workers in all other aspects of woodworking that have been buying lathes in recent years. Partly because since lathes have got so popular that a lot of manufacturers of lathes have been competing and bringing prices down and also because there are so many things that can be made on a lathe that cannot be made on other machines. It has got to the point that almost everyone can afford a good full feature lathe that has many features that used to be only available on very expensive ones.
For smart people that don't like to keep their eggs all in one basket especially if they need to sell some of what they make in order to support their hobby, then purchasing a lathe can be an excellent investment and pay for itself in short order . That has been proven time and time again.
I am finding that way more of the items that come off my lathe are selling better than what comes off my scroll saw when both types of work are displayed side by side. It also takes less time to make lathe turned items and easier to finish them (right on the lathe) . One of the nicest parts that I really like is that the majority of wood for turning is free .
Variety is the spice of life and when you are at a craft sale the ones that have the most variety bring the most $ $ $ $ home with them every time .

Dale.
When you do finally get up the nerve to mount it on your lathe I would love to see what you turn it into (pun intended).
You can either put it on the lathe square and make it round with a roughing gouge or you can make it a lot easier on yourself and cut it very close to round on your band saw before mounting it on your lathe.

Other than that , would you like my mailing address ? Tell me what you want to make with it and a brief description of the profile and I will make it for you and send it back to you all finished. No charge .
I get loads of free wood for turning but now and then I like to turn a piece of wood for someone and send it right back to them in a different shape than when I received it.
