Default My Third Celtic Knot Pen

A week or so ago I posted a picture of my second Celtic knot pen that I didn't care for because of the defects in the wood that showed up only after turning it. I had said I would either disassemble it and use the hardware over or sell it cheap.
Well , this morning at a very small craft sale I sold that one for half price while at the same time pointing out to my customer why I sold it cheap. That was my second Celtic pen sale . The other one was in another a sale a week before.

Tomorrow I am going to another craft sale (even smaller than todays) so I went out in my shop this afternoon and made another one . I am well pleased with this one and I feel quite sure that it will sell tomorrow but this time it won't have to be discounted.
Next week I will make several more because out of seventy other pens on display the Celtic knot ones seem to be the first to sell.

Amazing what can easily be done with a $1.70 pen kit and some free wood..

W.Y.

That's extremley nice, Bill. What woods have you used for that? And where do you get pen kits as cheap as $1.70?

Ian;
The center band and the Celtic knot are jarrah. They are cut offs that a person in town gave me from putting red inlays into a white maple hardwood floor. The rest is Box Elder burl that was in one of the boxes of wood someone gave me full of local and exotic woods.
That is just a lowly slim line kit but I modify them and chuck out the skinny center band that comes with them and make them into a "modified" slimline. I modify them in several ways . That one is just one of the many things you can do it with slimline kits.
I have got them at $1.49 in 50 lots when they are sale here and there but now the best price after doing some shopping around and comparing is about $1.70. Pen's of Color and Beartoothe Woods and a few others have them for $1.70 most of the time. They are the identical 24K gold ones that you will see on some other sites at a much higher price. Pays to shop around when you can get identical products manufactured in the same plant and are identical in every way.

WOW! I don't know what is more beautiful, the view from your shop or your work! With that view, I wouldn't get anything done.

Those pictures were taken BEFORE the tornado

Seriously though, great pen W.Y. I'm guessing you offer more plating options than just the 24K gold?

Tornados are good. They create lots of free wood

Satin gold, Platinum , Black Titanium , Bright Copper , Chrome , etc. Some of those kits are very expensive and I only order them in for custom orders. The installation is the same regardless of the type of material the kits are made from.
90 % of my sales are are gold and chrome in this depressed area where I live.
If I was in a big city where the big wage earners are I would be making more with the high end kits.
