| Warning!!! Alert!!! Please Read!!! Hi Everyone, I thought that I would pass this info along to you. I do not know all of what happened yet but this is the main part of the warning. My nephew and his wife have a paypal account and have bought things from the internet. Somehow someone got enough information to make things seem real legal and on the up and up. I am not sure if it was through the mail or a phone call or email. but the pretended to be from paypal and said that there was a problem with a transaction and got them to give some account information for supposedly verification. Well My nephew and his wife got their bank accounts wiped out. So be very cautious and if some one contacts you wanting information I suggest that you do not give it. I would call the company that they say they are represnting to make sure that it is that company. Just a heads up. Steve |

| I'm very sorry to hear that Steve. Every once in a while I get a request for information about my paypal account & needing more information. Thing is, I don't have a paypal account. I just forward emails like this to ebay and they investigate it. I usually get an ebay request & paypal the same day, so I send everything to ebay. Anytime some calls me asking for any type of information, I just say, you are joking right? and hang up. Never hear from them again.
Betty

| I will try to get more details of how this happened and what all went on and post them for every one to read. The bank is suppose to be working with the kids to retreive the lost monies. I hope so this boy is a hard worker with two little ones and can't afford things like this. I just wanted to make everyone aware. Steve |

| I have set up a separate bank account for my Paypal transactions and keep only enough in it to avoid bank fees. If someone should manage to defeat all of my other safeguards, they won't get a lot of money...it would hurt; but it wouldn't be a financial disaster!! |

| There are emails that come across all the time that look like they are from PayPal or Ebay. Most of the time they are spoofs or phishing emails.
The important thing to remember is to NEVER click on a link from the email. That will give the phisher all the info they need to hack into your account.
If you ever have a question about an email you get - go to the website direct. Do Not Click on a Link in an Email!!
I also get them from various banks - none of which I have an account with.

| I have dealt with PayPal for years and never had a problem. I do get spam once in a while from both EBay and PayPal. I forward it.
The important thing in this to remember is you never ever give out your information. They never do checking of account information.
They keep telling you that.
I'm sorry to hear about this Steve.

| My wife almost got taken by that this weekend...she clicked through a link and Firefox went nuts...it was a phishing site.
I've since explained to her that you never click on the link in the e-mail; you go to paypal direct!

| I'm not too sure if anyone has already posted this, my apologies if so.
If you are unsure of any emails from ebay or paypal you can forward the email to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com They reply pretty quickly to say whether it did originate from them or not, usually it did not.
I have had a few in the past, as well as ones from Banks that I'm not a customer of or have ever been. Unfortunately it's becoming more common as I've noticed I've started to receive calls from worried clients (mainly home users) asking me about how someone could get their information, I just point them in the direction of the email address above.
I'd only heard about one person being contacted at their home phone number in the UK as what Steve reported, looks like sadly this is becoming more common too.
Thanks for the heads up though Steve.

| A number of years ago, I had AOL and got fooled by a look alike site. I had put in my screenname and password, then got suspicious. Too late! They sent out thousands of e-mails for some porno site and I was getting hundreds of emails back every day calling me every name in the book. Took a couple of days to get it cleared up but they nevere got my bank info.
