Default What is Camera Ready Art???

Ok, I need a little help here. I've received camera ready art and such but now I need to provide it. What I need it for is to have shirts made with my business logo embroidered on them. I currently have it in electronic format, to be "camera ready" does it need to be printed at a certain resolution or something?

I figure this is a publisher's website so it's a good place to ask.

Good question, I guess Bob will have to step in.
If you have an option of printing it I would suggest the highest resolution you can print.
If it is vector based that is even better. Have you contacted the embroiderer to see if they can use any other format?

This Google query might help Kevin.

I'd also contact them to see about submitting it in electronic format. That's what we usually do; vector art does well with embroidery software...

Otherwise, I'd suggest printing it out at twice the intended size, marking that it is printed at 200% at the highest resolution possible. Crop marks along the edges would be good; is it going to be in specific colors? If so, I'd also provide a color guide in the three-color (RGB) or four-color (CMYK) sytem used by the company...

One of my sons-in-law has an embroidery and screenprinting business. I would not think you would need camera ready art for embroidery. He uses Corel and Photoshop for his work. The embroidery software imports just about any image. I would check with your embroiderer again.

In the sign making industry, camera ready art means they're going to photograph your artwork so it needs to be "camera ready". Generally speaking, that's 1000 dpi minimum, black and white, with colors expected annotated as a seperate description. Most (and I use that word carefully) colors are referred to according to the Pantone process or CMYK. Generally, camera ready art can have some pretty specific requirements depending on the process. I can't imagine they need such high quality for an embroidered logo though. I've submitted several corporate logos to a local embroidery shop in vector format (ai or eps) at 300 dpi and it was more than sufficient. The trickiest part of silk screen and embroidery is each individual piece can NOT overlap any other portion of the art work. In laymans terms, you can't have a solid black circle with a white center, it has to be more like a tire with a white center and no black under the white. Making any sense? Email me if you need help Kev. I can always look at your artwork and run it through the sign making process and send it back as an approved, vectorized, ai/eps document if that'll work for them. The sign making software is about $4000.00 and it can be done rather quickly and efficiently.
