Default I'm not a pattern designer

I have been asked to make a memorial plaque for my grandfather who recently passed away. I have all the info I need for the plaque but I am not one for designing, I can't design anything to save my life. He was in the British Navy in the late 30's early 40's and I was wondering if anyone may have any suggestions as to how I would go about designing this. My thought would be to design the plaque in the shape of the ship he was last on.
Please help.

Do you have a good photo of your grandfather in uniform? (Those are my favorite portraits to design.) What about his interests outside of the military? Did he belong to any groups, ie. Legion, Masons etc.

There are many options when it comes to memorials. If you want to talk out ideas , PM me anytime.

Take care
Toni

My grandfather is dearly missed and this is why I would like to do this plaque with all his achievements on it. He was an active member in the Masons and was also a diver for the Trent Canal system in Peterborough Ontario. He made and repaired the swinging doors for the lift locks back in the day when they wore those old metal diving helmets. His diving stuff is on display at the museum for the liftlocks in Peterborough. He was also very into woodworking as a carpenter. I guess that's where I get my love for wood from. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of him in his uniforms or diving outfits yet but they are on their way. Hopefully one of them will be suitable for the plaque.
