Thanx folks
I can't wait to put the finishing touches on it. I stacked it so I have 2 of them.

Susan,
Thanx for the enthusiastic reply I am truly humbled
All pieces were 1/8 but I did use a 1/8 spacer between the back and middle pieces. The front piece is directly against the middle. As I said, I want to darken the back piece a little more

Cathy,
Yeah, i had to reschedule the hunny-doos , but as I said, I cut 2 of them and guess who gets one of 'em ?
I'm in the doghouse just a little but that's OK , that's where my saw is too

Robert, you were looking for an easy way to frame the layerscape ... you might consider basket reed. You can purchase reed from 1/4" through 1 1/2" wide at www.basketpatterns.com And they also carry basket strips of ash, walnut, maple and birch which start in the 2" wide range.

One pound of reed, which lasts forever, runs between $6 and $9 per bundle.

Reed is very easy to use. Once the stack is assembled and the glue dry you cut a strip of reed about three times the outside dimensions of the work. Reed can come is very long lengths inside the bundle.

Soak the reed in cool water for about 1 minute and it becomes extremely flexible. You can tack one end to the outside edge, wrap along the outside dimension, it folds easily, and then when you reach the other end do a second tacking.

It's easy and it's very very cheap when you want a neat looking end but little or no cost to framing .... rather spend the saved money on More Wood!

OOOOPS, forgot, there are some great water dyes that you can purchase for basket reed or use power wood dyes to add some color to your wrap frame.

That sounds very interesting, Susan. Trying here -and failing! - to envisage what it would look like... You don't have any pics of anything you've done using that technique do you?

Cool project! I think that the shadow box is a good idea too, then instead of putting spacers you could cut dado's in the frame and use any distance that you wanted to and not have to worry about the spacers showing. Definitely on my to do list.

Yes, a picture pretty please ? the only thing I can envision ahead of time is overlapping the the reed at the end and cutting both pieces so the seam matches
The idea sounds like a good one but I just can't wrap my redneck brain around it

....or course there's always duct tape
