| Suit of Armour Just been playing about with a picture from the net trying to get a pattern of a suit of armour - blame Kevin for this for his armoured knight that he posted a while back - he got me thinking ..
The photo itself converted reasonably well - and i think I've got rid of the floaters - I'm wondering if there is enough support built into it to be able to cut it. Any of you pattern designers - or anyone else like to offer an opinion? All suggestions, constructive criticism etc welcome ..

| Looks good to me! Maybe the only way you can tell if it's "cuttable" is to get cutting it.

| I have seen sawings with alot less. Seems like the good sawers want to push the limits. I do wonder about his right leg though (left leg looking at the picture) Looks like it might be strain on the white section of the thigh to the shin. Looks like to me it only has the support in the upper thigh and looks mighty small.
But looks good to me. |

| The only area I see that could be a problem is the neck area just above the breast-plate. Personally, as a pattern (Caveat: you have likely done tons more than me) I don't find it terribly interesting. A jousting knight or perhaps one being knighted would be more interesting. |

| Hi Ian
I can't see any floaters as such, but I flood-filled the image and the color didn't fill everywhere it should have. To me, this indicates that some of the bridges might be a little too flimsy.
It should look good when it's cut though, if you make a few adjustments.

| Ian,
As far as it being my fault.....I have no recollection of these events.
I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of playing with it a bit and strengthened a few areas. I attached it for you to compare to yours as well as pic of what it would look like cut. This is something Andy Deane did for me when I was learning how to design patterns and it was the biggest help I could've received.
Kevin

Kevin | Thanks a lot Kevin. Just been having a look and you seem to have made life easier in places.. How did you get the wood effect? Just flood fill with a texture? That's a really neat idea - certainly gives a better impression of what the pattern will look like cut...
I just noticed when looking at your improvements that the area above the right gauntlet'elbow (looking at the pattern) has a bridge that is probably a bit thin too...

Gill | Thanks for looking Gill, that's interesting - I don't get any missing bits when i flood filled in in Photoshop - it's probably due reducing the pic to post on here..

You can use your own image for it, I have a few different woodgrain patterns that I use for this. This one is my favorite though. The directions are a little long winded, but just use the help in PSP for textures.
I looked at the bridge you were talking about, that's one of those areas that I would probably modify "on-the-fly." If I were concerned as I was cutting it, I would cut wide of the lines.
