Default My First Segmentation Pattern

Here's my first segmentation pattern. I learned lots of lessons (like make the pieces bigger next time, hehehe). I'm pretty happy with it though. I was orginally going to do it as an intarsia piece but I figured I'd rather work the kinks out with a piece of pine than expensive pieces of lumber.
I still have to figure out what I'm going to do for a frame, I'm thinking a shadow box type would be best.

That's it Kevin, I'm retiring. If you can cut great segmentation as well as great shadow portraits, there's no need for anyone else, is there?

Seriously, you've done a smashing job and it'll be a huge hit with whoever sees it. What sort of paints did you use?

Cute carousel horse, Kevin - haven't I seen a fretwork pattern of yours for that somewhere too. Nice job and nice colours ..

Now how about a segmented version of that great Knight pattern of yours? The size of some of the parts of that it might have to be wll-sized though

Very nice Kevin! Great colors also. I think the shadowbox frame would be perfect!
I'm with Ian, lets see one of that knight!

Great job Kev.. I don't see that a shadowbox would just have to be around it.. I like it just the way it is. I can imagine that hanging in a little girls room without the shadowbox...seems the box would take away from the hourse. ---- ew ew ew ew ( brain fart ) -- how about cutting some more in different colors and hang them with it like a real carosel ?? and maybe a top ?? then of course a bottom... but none in a box -just group them as if it were a carosel....wouldn't that look spiffy -- but if I am wrong then hit me softly with a wet noodle for my lashes.

Thanks all for the kind words.
Gill, I used acrylic paints which reminds me of something else I learned. Acrylic paints + veining cuts = a pain in the rear-end, hehehe.
Ian, nope, there's no fretwork version of this pattern though I have done a few carousel horse fretwork patterns.
Sharon, it will need some kind of frame as the painted backer is just 1/8 ply. As far as cutting some more in different colors, neat idea but I'm going back to my regularly scheduled fretwork, LOL! I can only handle one of these every couple of months.
As far as converting the knight pattern into a segmentation pattern, I wouldn't have a clue how to go about it nor do I think I would have the patience to cut it.

Great job Kevin. I'm partial to carousel horses being as I used to carve them. I like the paint also. Good choice of complementing colors!!
