Default Cancer ribbons

Hi everyone

I was wondering if Cancer ribbons are copy right or can I take an existing picture of a ribbon and make changes to it and make a pattern and sell only the finish product as a way to raise funds for cancer? Would I be breaking any laws? I do not intend and will not sell the pattern only the finish product.

My thinking is that I would not be breaking any laws because I'm not selling the pattern, I'm not making the same product and claiming it as my own. I would not be making any money on this as it would be a fund raiser. Am I right or wrong?

Eric

Default Fundraising

Morning Eric,

Might I suggest you contact a local cancer society near you and ask them? There are many with good intentions when it comes to fundraising and yet the organizations who they claim to be raising funds for have no knowledge of them. So by checking with your local cancer society, you are letting them know of your fundraising intentions, that you will be raising money that will be accounted for AND you will get permission (or not) to use a logo that is acknowledged by many to represent that society.

Take care
Toni

Default Cancer Fundraising

Tom Zieg designed a beautiful dove with a cancer awareness ribbon as a Christmas ornament - it appeared in our Holiday 2005 issue. Tom has given his permission for other scrollers to use the design for fundraisers and I'm sure he would grant his permission to you as well if you were interested in using it.
