| Inkscape pattern I was messing around with inkscape tonight.
It is a fun program with lots of bells and whistles.
Thanks for letting us know about it Bob.
Here is an attempt at a pattern using the autotrace.
I had to clean up the picture initially because of the way the autotrace combines transparency with the solid objects.
It looks like it will cut OK. No guarantees for free though

| Dancers!
This is right up my street . However, I think I'll make a few adjustments to the pattern before I set to work on cutting. Inevitably, I'll be looking to convert it into something suitable for segmentation.
Many thanks for making this pattern available, Carl. I haven't used Inkscape yet - how do you rate the program? Any chance of a tutorial?

| Something really interesting from a scrolling point of view is when you get the software to do multiple scans from a greyscale or multicoloured image.
Lets say you selected 6 scans.
You get six layers to work in, Some of this could be used for inlay work or segmentation.
If you chose the correct image, you could produce layered fretwork designs.
I am still learning the software. I spent about an hour or so last night and ended up with the dancers. Most of that time was learning how to select nodes and delete without changing the entire shape.
There is still the problem with floaters, the only software I have found that automatically finds them is Coyote, but I haven't really been looking for that feature in other graphic programs.
If you want to try something fun with Inkscape try the calligraphy pen! Specially if you have a tablet and stylus

| I've made a pattern which is composed of pixels and I'd like to convert it to vector. How can this be done through Inkscape?

| Inkscape has a trace funtion in the dropdown menues.
If the image is monochrome high contrast then it will be quite easy. If it is multicoloured then it is a little more difficult.
You can set the number of layers you want to trace in the menu box.
I don't have the program at work so I cant do a screen shot. But it is an easy process once you find the menu

| Thanks Carl. Your mention of the keyword 'monochrome' set me on the right track - I was trying to render an image I thought was monochrome but was actually grayscale .
This Inkscape is hot stuff!
