Those look wonderful Jim! Have you by chance seen the Bible box in Popular Woodworking (October issue)? Not one I'm up to making yet, but I bet you could pull it off without a hitch. Jerry

That's a great job you did there Jim! I was looking at the pictures and wondering...are the boxes hinged on the side in the middle, to where the box opens (kinda like a book itsself), or does the top half just set off of the bottom. Great idea! I know lots of people who'd like this!

[are the boxes hinged on the side in the middle, to where the box opens (kinda like a book itsself), ............ Yes the box is hinged on the left so it opens just like a book does. The two hinges are made of sandpaper.....yes cloth backed sand paper. I use a slotter on my router to put a 1/16" slot in the 1/4" edge of the top and bottom . I then cut a disc from velcro backed sandpaper and glue these into the slots using white glue. I then pin nail the sandpaper in place and cut off the excess of the pin on the inside, after the glue sets. I have made these boxes of 1/4" oak ,walnut and cedar.
