Unhappy Inkscape interface

Hello everybody!

Can you please help?

Although I have been scrolling for quite a number of years I have never had a go at designing my own patterns, so I thought I would give it a go. So as it was suggested I downloaded Inscape and Gimp. I started with Inkscape but found that the interface was'nt doing what the tutorial suggested especially in lesson 3 on object order within a layer. No matter what, I could not get the objects to move position. Also the objects are not solid in parts. Has anybody else encountered this problem, or am I just hopeless?

Hi Harry,

It would help if you could explain specifically what you were trying to do, what behavior you expected, and what behavior you saw.

If you are trying to follow a specific tutorial, then which tutorial was it?

I haven't had any problems with Inkscape that sound similar to what you are reporting (but don't get me started on its stability. *grumble* *grrrr* *grouch*).

Harry,

Not sure what tutorial you're using (Travis' over at Scroll Saw Village maybe?) I have experienced on a few occassions objects not moving up or down. Could never figure out why but chalked it up to user error. Was able to delete the object, recreate it and get it to work. Don't know what I or Inkscape did wrong but I did experience it for what it's worth.

Harry,

Here's a link to Travis' tutorial. I thought he did an excellent job. Kudos to him. Give it a try. I tried the tutorial from Inkscape's Help file and found it to be worthless.

Good luck!
