Tamoria, As long as you bought the patterns you are adapting and as long as you are not selling any copies of the patterns, and using them only for you and your father, you're fine. In most cases, if you own a pattern, you can do whatever you want with it EXCEPT sell copies of the pattern. Some people put additional restrictions on the patterns they sell, such as prohibiting you to sell projects cut from the patterns, but that relates more to the end use agreement rather than the copyrights on the pattern. Bob

I just quit the yahoo group scrollsaw pattern exchange cause someone there bought a pattern cd from Berry Basket they said had 350 meg of patterns on it which they were offering a free copy. I don't know if what they are doing is illigal but I do know in my own mind that it is wrong to give someone elses work away. I just didn't want to deal with folks like that. When I joined I thought another place to exchange patterns and ideas. I didn't see that at all and then the guy wanted to give this cd away and about 10-15 people wanted it then someone asked if they were copywright patterns and a small war broke out. Then I wrote that they were wrong in what they were doing and unsubscribed. Mike

FYI, I forwarded that e-mail to the folks who now own the rights to that CD. I've been a member of that group for some time and as a rule they're pretty good about copyrights.

I bought the offer CD from Berry Basket and, as I remember, it did give the rights to sell the patterns, too. It gives "lifetime reprint and resell rights". See Scrollsaw patterns - More than 1800, Many Free Hope this helps! Sue |

Hi Sue, Those rights were to sell printed patterns. Berry Basket was implicitly stated that you do not have the right to sell or give away the patterns electronically... Bob

Tony, I'm not Bob but I think I can answer that one. You're free to display finished works here. It's the sharing of the patterns and such that creates issues.

Hi Bob I am not into selling patterns at all, so didn't read all the terms and conditions. I only wanted to use the patterns. Thanks for putting me right on that. Cheers Sue |

No problem, Sue. Just wanted to make sure everything was clear on the patterns. If I were Berry Basket, I think I would have found a way to make it even more clear what their stipulations were use of the patterns. Bob
