G'day mate,
Was wondering if you could do something with this.
I'd like to cut a few and I'd place some wording on the completed work.

On one, I'll just put "", it is for a returned Serviceman I know and on some other's I think I'll put 'Lest We Forget".

It's OK if you're too busy, but asking never hurt anyone

Sure deal Lucille! It looks workable to me. Do you have a preference as to the style or do you want options? I can see it done as fretwork, segmentation/intarsia. The first thing I thought was seperate banners, background and the crown with them all layered and shaped. It would be relatively easy to create it normal portrait/fret style as well. Just lemme know. Off to the golf course today so I won't be home till later afternoon.

Thank you for the vote of confidence that I can pull this off. LOL

G'day Andy,
Thanks Mate,
I've never done a segmented piece, so I reckon fretwork would be the go. If you want to muck about with any of the other ideas feel free.
I'll have a look through my books and see if I can find another pic that I can scan in a bit bigger if that would help.

Spose I could all ways try scanning in my badge.............. may give it a shot tonight.

If you are interested in some history of the badge, It's commonly referred to as "The Rising Sun Badge" and here is a good link.

Once again thank you greatly.

John that would be real easy to do in segmentation. I have done some military and scout crests. If you cut it all out of wood or even MDF it just become a case of sanding down the different layers to get the shape you want. For example Leave the letters alone and sand down the banner part so the words end up proud. And the raised edges would be sanded down just a bit. The crown would get the same treatment. Before cutting I would drill out the jewels and insert pieces of dowel.I found the small rounp cutting are just to brittle and so cheat.
I will try and post some pics of ones I have done to give you an idea of what I am yapping about. I can't find a military one but will show some scout ones, the star one is 26" across.

Alan,
Those great mate. I think I just might have a go at segmentation.
You put forward a convincing argument
