Default Adding thumbnails or photos to a post

Thanks to Thomp who sent me these screenshots. While they are from the carving board, the principle is the same.

Here are the basics of attaching a thumbnail to a thread

If you are starting a new thread, follow these intstuctions exactly.

If you are posting a reply, you must click on " Reply." The following instructions will work from there.

(I know there are ways to do it using Quick Reply, but I'm trying to keep this simple).

1. Click on "Manage Attachments" under the "Additional Options" section. This will bring up another menu. If you have pop-up blocker enabled, you must allow this pop up (Click on the bar at the top of your screen and allow the popup if you use Internet Explorer)

2. Click on "Browse." This will allow you to look on your computer for the file.

3. Choose the photo you want to upload and click "Open".

4. It will bring you back to the pop-up menu. When you have all the photos you want to upload, click "Upload." You can close out of the pop-up menu.

5. You will be back at the Additional Options menu. The file you want to attach will be shown in Red.

I'm going to try to do the same thing with the quick and easy Windows re-size function.

You may want to note that step 1, the bar at the top of the browser, is IE specific. Other steps need to be taken for Firefox, Safari, and other browsers.

For the record, I am a Firefox user.

Cheers,

just wait... it also depends which side of the equator you are on, AND, if you are facing north or south, not to mention the moon phase!!!

Thanks BoBD,

For a tutorial much needed,

I think Bobd is to be commended for the work on a much needed explanation of the picture uploading problems people have,

if you still don't understand how, NOW is the time to let bob know
  1. what isn't working,..??
  2. how do i make sure my file is the right size ?
  3. how do i resize a picture ?
Lots of descriptive information can be passed on with a single snapshot,

but until we understand the constraints of the forum software, and how to stay inside the constraints of file size and photo dimensions we will just blunder along and information wont flow properly...

i certainly feel for the folks just learning the forum software, as well with their own computers software, i use a IBM clone with xp home sp2 and Internet explorer on a dial up line,
i can certinly feel sorry for folks in other countries that have dial-ups that pay more for the bytes downloaded as well as the opportunity to use the Internet.. and the file size constraints have to be met for those folks...as well..

Sorry for my absence bob, i had a toasted motherboard, lightning,, but if want to continue with resizing tutorial ill make some more screen dumps..

When I try to upload a picture it says to large, how do I reduce the size.
I have checked other pictures that have been posted on here and they are larger than the ones I have. I'm doing something wrong just don't know what.

Bob,
E-mail the photos to me at duncan@foxchapelpublishing.com

I'll take a look (I've got an action written to check the photo sizes out on my Mac)

Can I send you a picture of my wizard that I can't get on here? Everytime I resize it, it just chops the left corner off and that's what I'm left with. It posted find in the gallery but I gave up trying in here!
