Default Spam attacks to board threads

Hi there - is it just me or is anyone else getting spam messages in their email boxes for replica watches etc. which reference normal thread replies on the boards. I've had 6 over the past week including 2 today

Sure hope this isn't the start of something new....

(LOL, I know what you really meant, Diane! )

I haven't had any EMail spam, but I don't think I have my account set up that way anyways (I only get EMail notification of PM's). There still does seem to be quite a bit of spam about, but it seems like you Mods are doing a great job cleaning it right up.

It's kind of weird how I never saw that stuff on the board at all until about a month ago. Then it seemed to hit all at once. I dunno, maybe I just wasn't noticing it before. Either way, it's pretty easily ignored, I guess.

Jim,

Do you have your profile set up to send email notifications if anybody posts on a thread you've subscribed to? If so, you'll probably get the spam notifications before the mods have a chance to delete them.

Sure do Rob - I guess the board must be attracting more spam than normal though as my profile has been set up the same since i joined almost year and this spam only started hitting me this month.

So much for being a Monty Python fan!......

Jim,
We've been getting hammered lately. We've got countermeasures set up to block spam from appearing in the open forum, but, unfortunately those countermeasures don't block the e-mail notifications. I'm researching to see if we can find a way to block them as well, but since our countermeasures are add-ons to the forum, I'm not sure what we can do at this point.

Hi Bob - thanks for the reply.
The good news is my own anti-spam measures which check all my mail on the server before it gets to my PC seem to be stopping most of the rubbish landing in my PC but it seems like one mail I let through before I realised it was spam has contaminated 4 other mail addresses I use and now they are also getting blasted. The smart buggers are now even sending offers of Rolex replicas and Viagra supposedly from one of my email addresses to another.

Nothing i can't live with, just annoying. As is usually the case as fast as you find a way to stop this crap the spam bots get smarter!

PS on a lighter note - why is it these spambots seem to mostly target the guys with their offers of sex enhancement pills, penile enlargements and replica watches. Are we more inadequate than the ladies or just an easier target ? Nah! surely can't be that!!!!

@Pete -

NO DOUBLE VISION PAL!

NO DOUBLE VISION PAL!

LOL!
