Default New anti-spam measures

Hi Gang,
We've just installed a new anti-spam measure. It basically looks at the first 10 posts by a new member, and if it suspects that the new member is a spammer, it requires the first 10 posts to be approved by a moderator before it's visible to the rest of the board.

If you are a new member, and your posts are not visible, please be patient until we can approve the posts.

Mods...most threads that have a post that require approval are marked with a little figure icon, so you can see them without having to click and open each and every thread.

Bob

LOL, not in my cupboard, Jerry. I can't stomach the stuff.

In seriousness, Bob, out of curiosity, will new posters get a message stating that their post is awaiting approval? Unless they come across this thread first, they might otherwise get discouraged with the board if they don't see their remarks come up.

Shawn,
Yes, they get a message. I usually PM them as well to let them know what's going on.

Without Spam, most of the boys I was in Scouts with would have starved to death.
Made a fine breakfast with a couple of scrambled eggs--if you can keep the ash from blowing into the pan!

And, it is the state dish of Hawaii.

well Bob, not sure when this went into effect, but I know I've reported a message this morning as spam - a users first message. I was looking for a different one than the one I ran across - so they are still getting through.
