Default l.e.d. lamps (medium base sizes)

The 25 watt incandescent standard supplied lamp on my DeWalt scroll saw is adequate but have considered replacing it with a newer l.e.d. type bulb. I have seen "standard base" l.e.d. lamps but as yet no "intermediate base" sizes. I can't help but think the light emitted by the l.e.d. would be a great improvement over the incandescent given the lack of shadows and the truer white light rendered.
The only other remedy would be to replace the socket and shroud on the DeWalt...rather not go there!
Thanks for any input or suggestions...

I dont have the dewalt light on my saws. I do have one of those cheap halogen worklights hanging over each scrollsaw, and they produce a lot of light.I think I paid about $5 each for those lights when a big box store had them on sale, and I got about a half dozen of them because the price was right. If you find a LED light, I am sure that will really brighten things up for you, and, I think those last a long time as well. One thing Im not sure of is how well they would take to bumping, or the little shaking from the saw in operation, but if you find one, try it out, and give us a full report please!

G'day Phindlay,
I have a circular fluro lamp with a glass on the bench next to my saw and another light on the other side with an energy save globe in it. I thinks i'ts about 15watts which equates to about 100 watts in an old incandescent globe.
Plenty of light, but I'd go for the LED's if they were a bit cheaper.
I think they'd handle the vibration etc pretty good as they are now all the rage for trailer. ute and truck tail lights here in Oz.

Also very economical to get the equivalent of 100 watt incandescent, something like a 5 watt LED does the same.

I have the DW without the attached light and also and like JohnB I have a separate circular 3inch flor. light on a separate stand. I have tried 3 different lights and for me this has been the best one so far. The advantage of the absence of shadows cannot be overestimated. I think the best light might be an attached flor. I do not know long term how the vibration would affect life of bulb.

I have the light mounted on my saw. And, a magnifier lamp mounted on the right side of my stand (homemade). This combo works well, even when I'm not using the magnifier, itself. With a light source on each side, shadows aren't a problem.

I have a tendency towards light induced migranes and the shadows thrown by using the saw mounted lamp would trigger them. Adding the second lamp solved the problem.

Don't know for sure if they have them, but the C Crane company does have some LED replacement bulbs.

That was an interesting site Jim, especially the savings that replacement of incandescent bulbs can make.
Here in Oz, incandescent bulbs have been banned for about 2 years now.
I replaced all of mine with compact fluros many years ago and you sure could tell the difference when the power bill arrived.

I work part time in the lighting department at Lowe's, and just wanted to let you know that "standard base" and "medium base" are the same size. Medium base is just the more technical term for it.

Hi Phindlay. I am not quit sure what you are talking about. but, I have been just resonantly introduced to the led lighting thing. I think they give off some great light like you said. and at a cheaper price for electric. I will be watching your thread to see what comes of it. thanks for sharing. and hay welcome to the forum. glad your hear. Evie in southern Calif.
