Finally done! This is Fred Martin's pattern of Bluenose, a fishing and racing schooner that sailed in the Halifax, NS area early in the 20th century. The ship's wheel was provided by the customer. Woods are wenge, aspen, poplar, and hard maple. Sorry about the quality of the photo. I forgot to take a picture before I took the project to the shop and wound up taking it with my phone instead of a good camera. Jan |

Good for you Jan. It's a lovely piece of work. [Is this the one a while back you joked about cutting the wheel?]

All of the above comments plus a Beautiful. I really like using the wheel as a backer. Has the customer seen it yet?

Love it - I started a pattern a few yrs ago that included a schooner and the ships wheel. That one is still in a box somewhere Maybe you just encouraged me to go find that box.Wonderful job!!!! Thanks for the camera reminder. I'm should be getting ready for my niece's 8th b-day party and I almost forgot my camera. |

Thanks for all the kind comments. @Mayo: Yes, this is the wheel I threatened to cut. It took me forever to complete what with weddings, travel, storms, and other unexpected things getting in the way. @Rolf: The customer is the guy holding the wheel when I took the photo. He is thrilled and it is already hanging in his home. @Tango: Get out the box and finish the schooner. I was surprised at how well this turned out. Jan |
