Has anyone done one of Robert Hlavacek gun patterns? I am in the middle of doing his 1866 Carbine pattern am and wondering about cutting the backer? It is 44 inch's long and then for an even better challenge some inside cuts?
Well, when there is a will there is a way. Just wondering what the easiest is.

I've done inside cuts like that same as normal except you sometimes have to get creative and cut a bit one way, get it turned around, cut some more and so on. Eventually, you should be able to get it all cut out.
Another option is spiral blades if you have them.

You can also use something like a Roto-Zip or a Trim Router for the inside cuts.
Depending upon size, even a zig-saw.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been scrolling for over 20 years now and have never tried a spiral blade. That is probably my best option, as I am horrible with a jig-saw, even worse with a roto-zip.

You can also turn your blade around. Takes a bit of getting used too.
