The only drawback of this technique is that you don't always get the grain to go in the best direction.

To Kim This little project uses 3 different woods (Bloodwood 1/4" ,walnut 1/4" and poplar3/16") and an 1/8" backer. I had no problem cutting the different woods together although the bloodwood did slow down the speed a little. This technique probably would not work very well if more than an inch of woods were used but for this project it did work fine. As Rolf said the grain direction would be harder to plan for on a larger project but for this project it works fine.

Thanx Mike I appreciate the input! When stack cutting like that, do you need to be concerned about the width of the kerf when butting up your pieces? - I hope I asked that right ;-)!?! I was thinking about using the process similar to yours, for fridge magnets...nothing on a large scale. But I wasn't sure about blade choice and such.
